According to a recent news report, Spelman College, a small woman's college in Atlanta, has withdrawn from the NCAA. College President Beverly Daniel Tatum told the New York Times that she evaluated the cost of keeping her school's sports program alive and the price was simply too high. Spelman's competitive sports program served only 80 students and cost almost $1 million dollars.
